I have been writing for some time about the need for us as grandmas (grandpas/parents, as well) to equip ourselves so we know the "whys" - why we are able to believe God is real and trust Him with confidence, so we are able to teach the "whys" to the children we love. When we are losing more of our grandchildren than ever before to atheism, we must step up and take action. We must equip ourselves, find and use resources with them to help them know the "whys", and ask our churches to do the same.
Grandparenting is about far more than baking cookies, having sleepovers, staying in touch with our grandchildren, and hugs . . . although I am strongly in favor of all those things, it is about handing down confident faith. It is about stepping up and focusing on learning what we need to know so we are able to help the ones we love know what they need to know. We must not fail to do this.
I want you to know about an excellent book by Karl Giberson and Francis Collins - The Language of Science and Faith. I can not recommend this book highly enough - it is excellent and a "must have" for every grandparent who is serious about learning the "whys" and teaching the "whys" to the ones we love. In this book you will find . . .
- Questions AND answers to the questions the next generation has about God, science, the Bible, and more.
- The authors - both solid scientists - explain evolution and how we are able to know it is true.
- As committed Christians, both authors also explain how science shows us God's amazing creation!
- How to connect science and faith.
- How to connect science and the Bible.
- How science shows us God is real.
InterVarsity Press says; "Christians affirm that everything exists because of God--from subatomic quarks to black holes. Science often claims to explain nature without including God at all. And thinking Christians often feel forced to choose between the two. But the good news is we don't have to make a choice. Science does not overthrow the Bible. Faith does not require rejecting science. World-renowned scientist Francis Collins, author of The Language of God, along with fellow scientist Karl Giberson show how we are able to embrace both. Their fascinating treatment explains how God cares for and interacts with His creation while science offers a reliable way to understand the world He made. Together they clearly answer dozens of the most common questions people ask about Darwin, evolution, the age of the earth, the Bible, the existence of God, and our finely tuned universe. They also consider how their views stack up against the new atheists as well as against creationists and adherents of intelligent design. The authors disentangle the false conclusions of Christians and atheists alike about science and evolution from the actual results of research in astronomy, physics, geology and genetics. In its place they find a story of the grandeur and beauty of a world made by a supremely creative God."
I am so thankful for a book which so clearly explains they "whys", so I am able to share solid, truthful answers with the ones I love. I absolutely recommend every this book for every grandparent/parent. If you are looking for answers to the questions the ones you love are asking, or want to be equipped to teach them the truth before they ask these questions, get this book! You will be SO glad you do!
