grandma's chuckles - Eight-Year-Olds' View of Grandparents

A few years ago I saw a post about how eight-year olds describe grandparents. I do not know where it originally came from, but today, especially since it is Grandparents Day, I thought I'd share just a few of the quotes with you - get ready to laugh!

  • Grandparents are a woman and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people's children.
  • Grandparents do not have to do anything, but be there when we come to see them. They are so old they should not play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to shops and give us money.
  • When they take us for walks they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.
  • They show us and talk to us about the colors of flowers and why we should not step on "cracks".
  • They do not say, "Hurry up!"
  • Grandmas are usually fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes.
  • They wear glasses and funny underwear.
  • They can take their teeth and gums out.
  • They have to answer questions like, "Why isn't God married?" and "Why do dogs chase cats?"
  • When they read to us they do not skip. They do not mind if we ask for the same story over again.
  • Everyone should try to have a grandmother, especially if you do not have TV, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.
  • They know we should have a snack before bedtime, they say prayers with us and kiss us, even when we've acted bad.
  • It is funny when they bend over; you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog!
Okay - which one do you like the most? I think the last one is the funniest and I like the one about how everyone should have a grandma!

Please feel free to share . . . especially since today is Grandparents Day - it is likely to brighten the day of all who read it!
