My grandsons are into science. They love science projects, they love to talk about sciency things, they enjoy watching science shows; basically they are extremely interested in all things science.
One area of science which they find extremely interesting is space. My eight-year old grandson things it would be amazing to be able to travel to Mars. But, short of doing this he loves the opportunity to star-gaze. So, when I had the opportunity to receive and review a telescope from Celestron, I knew my grandsons were going to be thrilled!Celestron sent me their FirstScope Telescope - a perfect first telescope - to try with my grandsons and then let you know all about it.

Celestron says; "In 1609, world-renowned Italian scientist, Galileo Galilei, introduced an elementary telescope to the growing astronomy community which sparked interest into the mysterious night sky for centuries to come. Four centuries later, Celestron offers the portable FirstScope Telescope. The FirstScope pays tribute to Galileo Galilei and many of history’s most notable astronomers and scientists by displaying their names around the optical tube. We honor the contributions of these men and women, who brought us one step closer to understanding the universe around us. The FirstScope is a wonderful keepsake for anyone interested in astronomy. It is very easy to observe with, the user simply navigates the night sky by moving the tube in the direction of their desired object, making the viewing experience a snap! The FirstScope Telescope comes complete with two eyepieces, 20 mm and 4 mm, allowing for magnification up to 75x. This quality Dobsonian-style telescope features a 76 millimeter optical tube with enough light gathering ability to view all the best celestial objects like the rings of Saturn and the Orion Nebula. FirstScope is a perfect option for any entry-level astronomer. The compact design makes it easy enough to take with you on your next outdoor adventure. FirstScope is also stylish enough to be a decorative fixture on your bookshelf or desk."
I love how easy the FirstScope is to use - it encourages imagination, learning and dreaming as it introduces children (and adults) to exploring the night sky. I am looking forward to being able to actually see the rings of Saturn or the Orion Nebula - as both are able to be seen with the FirstScope! Can you imagine how cool it would be to have the FirstScope at your next bonfire! Just think about the memories you will be able to create for the children you love by helping them explore and discover the night sky - from your backyard!
