On-line it said, "It's National Chocolate Candy Day! Chocolate candy is one of the most popular sweets in the world. It can be combined with everything from nuts and caramel to raisins and pretzels to make some of our favorite chocolate treats!
Did you know during the Second World War, the U.S. Government commissioned Milton Hershey to create a candy bar to include in the soldiers' rations? The recipe his company created is now the famous Hershey Milk Chocolate Bar.
Today, chocolate is still clearly an American favorite treat. Over 2.8 billion pounds are consumed annually. On average this means each person consumes over eleven pounds per year! To celebrate National Chocolate Candy Day, enjoy some of your favorite types of chocolate candy."
There are great reasons to love Chocolate candy for sure . . .

- It is good for you!
- It tastes so delicious!

- It tastes so delicious!
Well . . . aside from tasting so delicious, this list really could go on for quite some time! So, I thought I'd re-share my recipe for making non-dairy chocolate candy. This recipe, however, is so delicious your able-to-eat-dairy family members may prefer it to regular chocolate! I've been told by my family - and have to agree with them - this candy tastes like chocolate truffles!!!! It is so delicious and happily, so easy to make!
You'll find the recipe for this delicious chocolate candy - and recipes for several additional dairy-free chocolate candies - at this link. My "tweaked" recipe is below . . .
- 5 T cocoa powder
- 4 T coconut oil, melted
- 4 T powdered sugar
- 3 T peanut butter, melted
- 1 tsp honey
- dash of vanilla
Directions -
- Melt coconut oil and peanut butter
- Mix all ingredients (add a bit more powdered sugar and/or cocoa if it needs to be a bit thicker, but remember it will set up as it cools)
- Spoon into candy molds
- Freeze for five to ten minutes - until firm
- Wrap in pieces of wax paper and store in the freezer or refrigerator
- Enjoy!!!!
I have to say, this is some of they most enjoyable chocolate I've ever had!!!! Keep in mind, it melts quickly and does get all over little hands and faces! You may want to do as I'm doing and make them in small candy molds so they are bite-size . . . this should cut down on the possibility of ending up with chocolate everywhere!
And, just for more fun, here are a couple fun chocolate candy facts - did you know . . .
- 25 million Hershey's Kisses are made each day.
- The average American eats 11 pounds of chocolate a year.
You will find more fun facts at this link.
By the way - I love dark chocolate covered almonds - I eat some each day . . . the dark chocolate has anti-inflammatory properties and releases endorphins - great for my arthritis and it just makes me happy!
Enjoy . . . and Happy National Chocolate Candy Day!!!
