My Christmas Carol for Today - Silent Night - by Carrie Underwood

When we think of Christmas Carols there are songs we immediately think about - for me, Silent Night is one such song. While many people have sung this song over the years, Carrie Underwood's presentation is beautiful and you will find it at this link.

I thought it would be interesting to share a couple fun facts about this song with you - did you know . . .

    • The carol has been translated into more than 4o languages.
    • During World War I, the song was sung simultaneously by French, German, and English troops at the Christmas Truce of 1914, which was an unofficial ceasefire between the combatants. The soldiers’ goodwill reduced hostilities to the point where previous enemies walked out of their trenches and crossed No Man’s Land to exchange Christmas greetings and gifts and played an impromptu soccer game.
If you would like to sing along with Carrie, these are the lyrics -

Silent night, holy nightAll is calm, all is bright'Round yon Virgin Mother and ChildHoly Infant so tender and mildSleep in heavenly peaceSleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy nightShepherds quake at the sightGlories stream from heaven afarHeavenly hosts sing, "Alleluia"Christ the Savior is bornChrist the Savior is born
Silent night, holy nightSon of God, love's pure lightRadiant beams from Thy holy faceWith the dawn of redeeming graceJesus, Lord at Thy birthJesus, Lord at Thy birth
