Today is National Chocolate Covered Anything Day!

I find almonds to be very tasty, but when you cover them in chocolate - especially dark chocolate, they become absolutely delightful! So, I'm all for National Chocolate Covered Anything Day!

What do you enjoy covered in chocolate? My family particularly enjoys Chocolate covered pretzels, and Nationaltoday dot com says; "This is the day you’ve been waiting for. All those times when you wondered, 'What would this taste like dipped in chocolate?' can now officially be answered."

They also share a little history for this wonderful day . . .

  • In the 1700's Long-stemmed sour 'griotte' cherries were layered with chocolate with some of the local cherry brandy.
  • In 1960 While working in a small bakery, Lorraine Lorusso
had the idea of dipping fresh strawberries in chocolate, and sold them to customers.
  • In 2007 The Gourmet Chocolate Pizza Company began selling chocolate covered pizzas in the UK. I think I'd pass on this.
  • In 2012 October 14 is annually observed as National Chocolate Covered Insects Day. I KNOW I'll pass on this!
And, "Speaking specifically about dark chocolate (that is any bar that contains between 70 and 85 percent cocoa), there are ample health benefits you can get from what many believe to be merely a dessert. In 100 grams of dark chocolate, you receive almost 100 percent of the daily recommended intake of manganese, nearly 90 percent of necessary copper intake, and about 67 percent of your needed iron intake. So as you’re covering that oreo in dark chocolate this December 16, you can tell everyone you’re doing it for your health."

So, enjoy today with your favorite chocolate covered things!
