just as grandma's cookie jar should always be full of good things, this blog will be full of good ideas, information, activities and reviews of things to help grandma . . . and grandpa, mom and dad too . . . pass on a heritage of faith to the children in their lives!
February is the Great American Pie month and while you may think of sweet pies when you think about pies, savory pies are also delicious! So, if you are thinking about a savory pie and are looking for a fun, simple, and nutritious meal which you could make with your grandchildren - Chicken Pot Pie!Ingredients -
Pie dough - use your favorite recipe or you could use a puff pastry or crescent roll dough
Cooked chicken, cut into cubes - or use leftover rotisserie chicken
Your favorite veggies
Make a simple gravy - I use olive oil and gluten-free flour to make a roux and then add chicken broth and seasoning
Directions -
Put your pie crust into a pan, fill with chicken, veggies, and gravy
Top with crust
Bake at 425 for 30 to 40 minutes
Enjoy!
This recipe is a great one to use with veggies you grew in your garden or found at a local farmer's market and is one your grandchildren could make with you. It is also a great recipe to take to a neighbor or shut-in - have your grandchildren draw and color a picture or card to go with the meal and have them help you deliver it! Enjoy!
