Read Aloud to a Child Day AND Take a Child to a Library Day!

Today is a day to celebrate not just one special thing, but two . . . it is Read Aloud to a Child Day AND Take a Child to a Library Day! We all know statistics show children are not progressing when it comes to reading. We also all know when we read to a child from their earliest days and when we take them to libraries, we are showing them the value of reading and children who are read to and who visit libraries do better when it comes to reading. They become people who read! "World Read Aloud Day is heavily supported by LitWorld, an organization dedicated to bringing literacy to the world at large."

"According to research, reading aloud has many benefits for you and your family! People find an emotional escape in stories, especially when they are read aloud to. By reading to your child for a few minutes every day, they are more likely to regulate their own emotions and learn how to better express themselves. Children who spend time reading aloud are more likely to understand different people and cultures, have empathy, and deepen their imagination skills.

Students who are read to in the classroom also score higher on comprehension tests as they understand the material deeper and can explain the themes quicker. In a Scholastic survey, 98% of teachers said reading aloud in class helps students engage in meaningful conversations.

The benefits are not only for young children though. Both teens and adults can find enjoyment in reading aloud. Parents who read to their children are found to have better emotional regulation as well as a stronger bond with their children." There are absolutely benefits for reading aloud - today and every day! You will find out more about this at the following link.

"Nadine Lipman and Caitlin Augusta are co-chairpersons of the Take Your Child to The Library Day intuitive. Nadine created the idea to make a fun way to bring community awareness to the library and all the resources and events that are held there throughout the year. The first day was celebrated in 2011 and has grown to include libraries all over the country. You can go to the main website by heading to http://takeyourchildtothelibrary.blogspot.com."

So, on these special days focused on books and reading, you are able to celebrate by reading aloud to the children in your life, visiting the library - and maybe by getting new books for the ones you love as well! I'd recommend the books you'll find in our bookstore at this link!
