Happy Father's Day! I have MS, so I use a cane to help me get around. It has an elephant on the handle and when I am out and about, it is not unusual for people to stop me and comment on how much they like my cane. When this happens I usually share a few "elephant facts", which I'm going to share with you today.
If a herd of elephants has a grandma elephant, the babies are far more likely to survive. My cane helps me remember, grandmas make a difference.
Today is Father's Day, so what does this have to do with dads? Well, studies also show when young male elephants become "teens", if they do not have "grandpa" elephants in their herd, the young males become "juvenile delinquents". They need older, wiser male elephants to help them learn how to live "responsibly".
This is true for our grandchildren, too. They need both their grandmas and their grandpas - we make a difference. So do moms and dads as they make a difference, too - and are the most influential people in the lives of our grandchildren. So, dads and grandpas, please know, you make a difference - Happy Father's Day!
