The Best Baby Shower Gift!

I've been writing about the wonderful books Candlewick Press sent me to review - I absolutely believe surrounding our children and grandchildren with books is one of the best things we will ever do for them. The Summer is beginning, so get a new book, or two, or more, and surprise the children you love with them. Books are wonderful resources to use on rainy days, before bedtime, to start the day - at any time!

But, books also make a fantastic baby shower gift! Yes, the expectant parents look forward to receiving baby clothes and other supplies they need for their new baby, but books are essential. When we read to children from their youngest ages and then read with them as they get older, it makes a difference. Studies show children who are read to begin talking sooner, have a larger vocabulary, begin reading on their own sooner, and do better in school. Plus, snuggling and reading with your little grandchildren - what could be better!

There are so many benefits to reading, so if you have any baby showers coming up, add at least one book, or two, or more. Or, give a package of books as the gift. It is a gift which will make a fantastic difference - for the baby and the new parents!
