Summer Reading - Roy is Not a Dog

Among the books I received from Penguin/Random House Canada/Tundra Books was one which creatively introduces young children to "mystery books" - Roy is Not a Dog, by Esmé Shapiro and Daniel Newell Kaufman. Get ready for some fun with this story - do not be surprised if the children you love want you to read this one to them again and again - or choose it to read on their own again and again!

Favorite Features -

  • I love the illustrations - be sure to pay close attention to the illustrations as they give you some important "clues" - help the children you love do the same and see if they are able to spot these "clues" - adds to the fun of this story.
  • Engaging story - as the "clues" and "evidence" mount up, Weasel begins to think Roy may actually be a dog!
  • I love how this story encourages children to pay attention, put "clues" together, and come to conclusions! This story encourages thinking and being yourself - as all books should!
Tundra Books says, "Take a ride down Lilypod Lane with Weasel and Pam Pam as they try to solve a mystery in their neighborhood in this hilariously fetching picture book: could their peculiar neighbor actually be a dog in disguise?

On Lilypod Lane, everyone knows everything about everybody . . . or so they believe! When curious paperboy Weasel encounters his mysterious neighbor Roy on his route, he becomes convinced Roy is actually a dog! But when his friend Pam Pam disagrees, Weasel must put on his detective cap and do his best sleuthing to reveal Roy's extraordinary secret, and prove not everything is as it seems, once and for all!

An endearingly offbeat picture book which celebrates neighbors and neighborhoods, Roy Is Not a Dog delivers laughs and lessons about accepting others for who they are as well as the risks and rewards of showing your true self."

Roy is Not a Dog is such a fun story! Fantastic illustrations and an excellent story combine for a book which will have the "detectives" in your family ready to do some "sleuthing" of their own!
