Summer Reading - What Will You Be, Grandma?

I'm so happy for the opportunity to share What Will You Be, Grandma?  by Nanette Newman and illustrated by Emma Chichester Clark with you which is charming and delightful . . . and imaginative! It is sure to make you smile! As I read this I could just picture some of the ideas my grandsons might come up with for the things I could "grow up to be"!!!

Favorite Features -
  • Touching story of a conversation between a little girl and her grandma . . . certainly could be a conversation any of us could have with our own dear grandchildren!
  • Beautiful, colorful and fun illustrations!
  • Encourages imagination, conversation and love!
  • Strong message for all grandmas - and grandpas . . . "you've still got a long way to go!"
Templar books says, "What can Lily’s grandma be when she grows up? An artist, someone who makes candy, a doctor, a fairy . . . so many possibilities!

Every child is asked what they would like to be when they grow up, but Lily decides to turn the tables by asking her grandma the same question! What answer will Grandma give? This enchanting book illustrates the touching bond between a grandparent and grandchild."

I love What Will You Be, Grandma? It begins with; "One day Lily asked her grandma, 'What do you think you'll be when you grow up?' 'Well,' said her grandma, 'a lot of people think I've grown up already.' 'oh, no,' said Lily. 'You've still got a long way to go.'" From there Lily gives her grandma all kinds of ideas of things she could be, "when she grows up", such as; "a lady who goes to schools and says, 'No more lessons today. Everyone go and play!'" Or, "a lady who makes lollipops and gives them away to children so they can save their allowance." I especially love what grandma says she would like to be; "a lady with a little granddaughter named Lily who she loves from the top of her head to the tips of her toes." Can you see why I find this book so delightful? Of course this grandma wants to be a lady who loves her grandsons from the tops of their heads to the tips of their toes . . . and she most certainly is!!!

Read What Will You Be, Grandma? with your grandchildren and ask them to help you think of what you can "be", "when you grow up!"
