Today is National Delaware Day

If you live in Delaware, today is a day to celebrate as it is National Delaware Day! So whether you live there or not, gather the children you love (or connect with them on-line) and share some fun information about this State - such as some of their silly laws and interesting fun facts - did you know . . .

  • This one is not just silly, it is mean - Ugly women must call out “Hideous Hag Coming” before entering a building where men may be.
  • Again, not silly, but mean - Ugly men are not allowed to go into the city before darkness.
  • This one is silly - No sand may be taken from the beach. The law states that sand must be removed from body, shoes and clothing before leaving the beach.
  • One may not whisper in church.

  • It was the first American state to officially declare independence from the British.
  • It is home to the oldest church in the U.S. — the Holy Trinity Church.
  • Delaware was also home to the oldest African-American church, the Union Church of Africans.
  • Delaware is the second smallest state.
  • It is the least populated state.
