It is National South Carolina Day!

Today is National South Carolina Day - so if you, or someone you know, lives there, it is a day to celebrate! Of course I'm going to share some of their silly laws and fun facts with you - please share with the ones you love - did you know . . .

  • It is against the law to get a tattoo
  • Horses may not be kept in bathtubs.
  • When approaching a four-way or blind intersection in a non-horse vehicle, you must stop 100 feet from said intersection and discharge a firearm into the air to warn horse traffic.
  • Every adult must bring a rifle to church on Sundays.
  • You may only sell light bulbs on Sundays.
  • The fire department may blow up your house.
  • Horses are to wear pants at all times.

  • South Carolina is known as the Palmetto State.
  • South Carolina became the eighth state in the Union.
  • It is the birthplace of barbeque. Although there are many theories, it is believed early settlers learned how to smoke meat from Native tribes around South Carolina.
  • There are over 4,000 free-ranging rhesus monkeys on Morgan Island, one of the Sea Islands near the South Carolina coast.
  • South Carolina is home to the Carolina Reaper, officially the world’s hottest pepper, with a Guinness Record established in 2013.
  • The provincial library in Charleston is one of the oldest public libraries in the U.S., having been established in 1698.
