Today is Colorado Day

If you call the Gateway to the Rockies, also known as Colorado, home, then today is a day to celebrate as it is Colorado Day! Let's learn about some of their silly laws and some interesting fun facts about this State - be sure to share with the children you love. Did you know . . .

  • It is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next-door neighbor. 
  • It is illegal to let a dandelion grow within the city limits. 
  • Colorado law, until recently, prohibited the collection of rainwater in barrels or tanks for personal use. 
  • It is punishable by law to let your llama graze on city property. 
  • You are not allowed to drive a black vehicle on Sundays in Denver. 
  • Louisville residents are allowed to own as many as three turkeys, but absolutely no chickens.

  • Before the Spanish started settling in Colorado as far back as 1598, Native American tribes had inhabited the area for about 14,000 years.
  • Several Native American tribes, including the Ancestral Puebloans, Apache, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Comanche, Shoshone, and Ute nations, inhabited Colorado.
  • Colorado borders Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah, making it possible to be in all four states simultaneously!
  • At 1,002 feet deep, the Mother Spring aquifer is the world’s deepest hot spring.
  • Spanning several 100 square miles, the Grand Mesa in Colorado is the world’s largest flattop mountain.
  • Home to the Rocky Mountains.
