Today is National Dog Day!

Today is National Dog Day, most of my married life we had dogs - mostly basset hounds, which are SUCH a wonderful breed of dog! My grandsons have two dogs, and until last year my daughter had a sweet basset as well, so in this family, every day is "Dog Day"! But since today is a special day to celebrate, let's look at some fun dog facts - did you know . . .

  • While my cat would not agree, dogs are the most popular pet on the planet.
  • A dog’s nose print is unique, much like a person’s fingerprint.
  • Forty-five percent of U.S. dogs sleep in their owner’s beds.
  • Seventy percent of people sign their dog’s name on their holiday cards.
  • Human blood pressure goes down when petting a dog, and so does the dog’s.
  • Dogs are not color-blind. They can see blue and yellow.
You will find more fun facts at this link.

For more dog fun check this link to find out which states have the most dogs, results from a dog survey, and how dogs are celebrated around the world.

So, take time today, on National Dog Day, to celebrate your dog - they are wonderful additions to any family! (The dogs in the photo are my "grand-dogs" - Rosie the Basset, and Gimli and Roxi)
