Tomorrow - August 10th - is National Bowling Day!

Tomorrow is National Bowling Day so if the children you love are like my grandsons, then this is a day to celebrate for sure! Today, in fact, my grandsons all chose for us to bowl for our yearly "Day of Fun"! (We are also going out for lunch, then will be making tie dye shirts, and fudge!) At any rate, since bowling is enjoyed around here, I thought it would be fun to share some fun facts about bowling - did you know . . .

  • Bowling's origins can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where evidence of bowling-like games has been found in tombs dating back to 3200 BC.
  • Bowling balls were initially made from wood.
  • The term “strike” in bowling originated from the early days of the sport when a player had to knock down all the pins with one shot to receive a bonus. If they didn’t, they would have to strike the remaining pins in the next two shots. Hence, the term “strike” was born.
  • A person can burn up to 240 calories per hour while bowling
  • The first indoor bowling alley was established in New York City.
  • The largest bowling alley in the world is indeed in Japan, with 116 lanes.
  • The world’s oldest bowling lane is in Scotland, dating back to 1200 BC.
  • The youngest person to bowl a perfect game was 5 years old.
  • Chad McLean recorded a speed of *100 mph*, making him the world’s fastest bowler.
You will find more bowling fun facts at this link. So tomorrow, or any day, gather the children you love and bowl! Be sure to bring your camera!
