just for fun - Friday is National Doodle Day!

Are you a "doodler"? Do you tend to draw absentmindedly or when you are bored? Do you tend to add little drawings or sketches to your name or when you write a note to someone? Most of us likely do this from time to time and Friday is a day to do so as it is, "National Doodle Day"!

Have some fun with this by getting your grandchildren together and have a "Doodle Party"! All you need is paper, crayons, pens, pencils . . . and some imagination! Combine them all and make a book, then see if you can make up a story to go with the things you all drew! Sounds like fun to me, but then I do love to make up stories with my grandsons!

And, share some fun "doodle" benefit facts with the children you love - did you know . . .
  • Doodling offers your mind an opportunity to express itself in a creative way.
  • In a study published in 2009, investigators discovered doodling while listing to someone on the phone may have benefits. The research revealed participants were able to recall 29% more material afterward compared to those who just took notes (Andrade, 2009).
  • When you draw (particularly faces), you allow your mind's humorous side to become activated.
  • One of the amazing benefits of doodling is its ability keep you focused on the here and now. When you draw out mental imagery from the unconscious, you are engaging in a useful activity for anxiety.
  • For reasons that we still dont fully understand, doodling (an extension of art therapy) helps to generate fresh ideas.
You will find more interesting facts about the benefits of doodling at this link.

When you, "doodle", what do you tend to draw? I lean towards drawing happy faces and hearts! Enjoy!
