October is National Cookie Month!

When my oldest grandson was just two years old he was playing at his house. His mom wanted him to get ready to come to my house, so she told him they were going for a ride. He continued playing with his toys. So, she told him they were going to  grandma's house. He continued playing with his toys. Then she said, "Grandma has cookies!". She told me he climbed the stairs faster than she ever saw him move in his short life!

My middle grandson once told me when he was four years old, my "super power" was making cookies - I thought it should be super hugs, but he scowled and told me it was "definitely" making cookies!

My grandsons enjoyed cookies when they were younger!

October is National Cookie Month - and certainly a month worthy of being celebrated! Nationaltoday(dot)com says; "National Cookie Month is marked in October to celebrate the existence of cookies. These snacks are stocked in most homes, stores, bakeries and everywhere cookies exist — except the internet cookies, which are not edible. Every year for a month, we mix some dough and celebrate the delicious, luscious, savory snacks which are cookies."

Before I share one of my family's favorite cookie recipes, I thought I'd share some fun cookie facts - did you know . . .

  • People in the United States purchase over 2 billion cookies per year.
  • Half the cookies people bake at home are chocolate chip.
  • Santa Clause eats an estimated 336 million cookies on Christmas Eve.
  • Americans spend $550 million on Oreos each year—it was the best-selling cookie of the 20th century, and it’s still going strong!

  • You will find more cookie fun facts at this link.

Now for one of my family's favorite cookie recipes -
    • 1 stick of softened butter
    • 1/2 cup peanut butter
    • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2/3 cup sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream all ingredients together - mix until fluffy!
    • 2 1/4 cup flour
    • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Add to creamed mixture then drop by the spoonful onto ungreased pan. Bake at 375 for seven or eight minutes (my family prefers soft cookies). Cool on a rack and enjoy!

What is your family's favorite cookie recipe?

Whether you buy cookies or bake them, this is the month to do so and then gather the ones you love and celebrate! Enjoy!
