Today is Nevada Day!

If you, or someone you love, live in Nevada, then today is a day to celebrate as it is Nevada Day! So, of course, we will look at some of their funny laws and some interesting information about Nevada - did you know . . . 

  • It is illegal to drive a camel down the highway.
  • It is illegal to conceal a spray-painted shopping cart in your basement.
  • In Las Vegas it is illegal to pawn your own dentures.
  • It is illegal for a man with a mustache to kiss a woman.

  • Native American groups, including the Washoe, Paiute, and Shoshone, once lived throughout the state.
  • Nevada, means ‘covered in snow’ in Spanish because the mountains are covered with snow throughout the winter months.
  • On October 31, 1864, Nevada officially became the 36th state to be a part of the U.S. Union. 
  • Nevada is the only state to possess a complete skeleton - approximately 55 feet long - of an ichthyosaur, an extinct marine reptile.
  • Nevada is the largest gold-producing state is the nation. It is second in the world behind South Africa.
  • Approximately 150 couples get married in Las Vegas each day.
  • Las Vegas has more hotel rooms than any other place on earth.
  • It would take 288 years for a person to spend one night in each hotel room in Las Vegs.
  • At an average of 60,000lbs a day, there is more shrimp consumed by Vegas residents in a day than the entire United States combined.
  • Jacob Davis, a tailor from Reno, Nevada, is credited with inventing blue jeans.
