- Forty times stronger – yes, a Giant Anteater’s sense of smell is 40 times stronger than yours! And they are able to smell the different types of ants.
- While they may look like a fluffy dust mop, surprisingly, Binturongs smell like buttered popcorn!
- Peacock Mantis Shrimp have a punch which is 50 times faster than the blink of your eye and creates “cavitation bubbles” which generate light and heat for a split second almost as hot as the sun – 4,400 degrees Celsius! When the bubbles pop, they make a shockwave which kills their prey – if they missed with their punch.
A group of Zebras is called a herd, a dazzle, or a zeal.
Star-Nosed Moles are the
first known mammal to be able to smell underwater!- If the environment is not right for a baby to be born, Black-Flanked Rock-Wallaby moms are able to stop their baby from growing for days, weeks, months – even up to two years, until it is safe for them to grow once again.
- Stonefish are able to live outside of water for 24 hours – as long as it is in a moist place, as they absorb oxygen through their skin.
- Rufous Potoos typically only sing when the moon is full. Their call sounds like they are saying “poor-me-ones” – if you ever hear it, you will not forget it.
