During Covid my grands and I worked on a new book series for children and families to enjoy to help them develop a confident faith as they learn about really interesting animals. (You will find the Life on the Goldilocks Planet series in the bookstore at this link.) In book two in my Life on the Goldilocks Planet series - Eyelash Vipers, Pygmy Elephants, Pangolins & More! - I wrote about Pygmy Elephants and yes, there are pygmy elephants in Asia and Africa!
I love learning about these amazing little animals (they top out at six to eight feet tall, which for an elephant is "little"!) One thing I love about them - and all elephants is how the grandma "ellies" make a significant difference in the health and well-being of the entire herd, but especially in the lives of the baby ellies. If there is a grandma in the herd - and likely leading the herd - the babies are more likely to survive! Elephants are smart - they know, and follow - the value and wisdom of the grandma elephants!I have MS, which means I walk with a cane. For my birthday a few years ago, my husband gave me a fun new cane with an elephant head on it! I love the cane and it reminds me with every step how grandmas do have value and must offer wisdom to their grandchildren - and entire family. It matters what we do. We are able to contribute value to our family. We are able to matter - and elephants (especially the very cool Pygmy Elephants) - remind me of this! (If you would like a fun elephant head cane, you will find it on amazon at this link.)
