Today is Bake Cookies Day

Today, according to daysoftheyear dot com is, Bake Cookies Day, so if ever there was a day to gather your eggs, butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, baking soda, chocolate chips, peanut butter, oats - or whatever your favorite cookie ingredients may be, so you are able to bake cookies, well, certainly today is the day!

Of course, it is fun to look at cookie trivia on this day, so, did you know - 

  • People in the United States purchase over two billion cookies per year.
  • Half the cookies people bake at home are chocolate chip.
  • Santa Clause eats an estimated 336 million cookies on Christmas Eve.
  • Americans spend $550 million on Oreos each year—it was the best-selling cookie of the 20th century, and it’s still going strong!
  • Introduced in 1902 by Nabisco, Animal Crackers were the first mass-produced, commercially available cookie in America.
  • Chocolate chip cookies are America’s favorite by a wide margin. While 16% of American adults admit to preferring peanut butter cookies (go peanut butter!) and 15% of American adults claim to enjoy oatmeal cookies, a whopping 53% like chocolate chip cookies the best.

    What is your favorite cookie? I love chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal cookies. I take the recipe on the bag of chocolate chips, cut the butter in half and add the other half as peanut butter, add about 3/4 cup of oats and the resulting cookie is delicious!
