It is National Suicide Prevention Month

Most of my "today is" or "this month is" posts are written with the goal of encouraging you to celebrate with the ones you love. Celebrating together is a fantastic way to build a strong relationship - and this truly matters when it comes to the ones we love. Too often, especially as we get older, we think it is the responsibility of our children/ grandchildren to reach out to us, but NO! As grandmas (grandpas/parents) we are able to be the one who reaches out. It matters for us to do this. Grandparents, remember how busy you were when you were younger? Be the one who reaches out, and celebrate with the ones you love!

Save Those Treasures!

Today I want to share with you something my oldest grandson did when he was nearly three years old. He came to visit me and as he walked up to my house, he saw me standing on the steps . . . he ran, with a huge smile and said, "Grandma! I have a picture for you! I made you a picture!" He gave me a wonderful hug and handed me his artwork - it was a drawing of a red truck and a heart . . . I know this because when he draws, he tells me what he is drawing and then asks me to write it down before we put it on my refrigerator. I love his picture and will treasure it always!

Three-Eyed, Big Nosed, Spotted Alien Hats

When my grandsons were younger, I crocheted a new hat for them each year for Christmas. We live in a snowy state - typically - and winters are cold here; I wanted their little heads to be warm. Plus, if you have to wear a hat, I figured it might as well be fun . . . and a little silly and crazy is fine, too!

"This is All I Wanted to Say"

Today I'm remembering how a six years ago on a Wednesday night - as on most Wednesday nights, my husband picked up our grandsons on his way home from work. As he was getting the boys into the car, he called to let me know they were on their way.

Four Steps to Making Great Memories with Grandchildren!

One of my favorite devotions from the Grandmother's Biblewas written by Bobbie  Wolgemuth and is entitled, "I Will . .  I Will . . ."  She says, "Psalm 9 contains a great 'I Will' activity list to remember when you spend time with your grandchild. First, start with an attitude of praise. Tell the Lord what you are thankful for. Count your blessings, name them. It will be easy to have a heart full of thankfulness after you've named even a few. Your heart will be full and running over with the kind of attitude which pleases God and spills over on the young ones with the love of the Savior.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

My grandsons enjoy cookies, but one of their favorites is chocolate chip, peanut  butter  cookies. When they were younger it was not unusual for them to go straight to the cookie jar when they arrived at my house - which was typically followed with very happy smiles on their faces!

"Grandmas are Filled with Love from the Bottom of their Feet to the Tippy of Their Heads!"

As I have mentioned a time or two on this blog (or maybe more) I enjoy reading the "memories" section on my facebook page each morning. When my grandsons were little, I wrote on facebook the cute things they said and did, now thanks to "memories" I am able to enjoy those things all over again whenever they show up on my page! Yesterday I was reminded of something my then five year old grandson said; "Grandmas are filled with love from the bottom of their feet to the tippy of their heads!"

It is Happy Cat Month!

Do you have a cat? We do. Candy is our calico cat, we got her last year from the local Humane Society, and she seems to be a happy cat, so when I saw how September is "happy cat month", I thought I'd share some ideas about how to celebrate.

Initially the idea behind Happy Cat Month is to encourage people to keep their cats healthy and take them to a vet to ensure they are healthy.
