It is National Apple Month!

I live in West Michigan - otherwise known as "Apple Country", so since it is National Apple Month, I thought I'd share a favorite apple recipe, an apple "hint", and some apple fun facts. First, the fun facts - did you know . . .

October is National Cookie Month!

When my oldest grandson was just two years old he was playing at his house. His mom wanted him to get ready to come to my house, so she told him they were going for a ride. He continued playing with his toys. So, she told him they were going to  grandma's house. He continued playing with his toys. Then she said, "Grandma has cookies!". She told me he climbed the stairs faster than she ever saw him move in his short life!

My middle grandson once told me when he was four years old, my "super power" was making cookies - I thought it should be super hugs, but he scowled and told me it was "definitely" making cookies!

My grandsons enjoyed cookies when they were younger!

Today is International Coffee Day!

Today is International Coffee Day! Clearly if there is something other than family worth celebrating, coffee would absolutely make it on the list! Daysoftheyear (dot) com says; "For many people, coffee is their reason for getting out of bed in the morning! It’s a morning treat, an afternoon pick me up, or even an evening drink to help stay awake. International Coffee Day pays heed to all of these and everything in between."

So, as we look at celebrating this most delicious of beverages, let's first learn some fun facts about coffee - did you know . . .

A Family of Her Own for Candy

The summer of 2022 my husband, grandsons, and I went to the Humane Society to get a kitten. I wanted my grandsons to go with us because, first of all, they love all animals, secondly I wanted to be sure whatever cat we got was one which was able to be around my grandsons without being aggressive. We spent some time at the Humane Society and finally settled on a very sweet calico - which we named Candy, because she is sweet (and my middle grandson said she reminded him of candy corn.)

Tomorrow is National Homemade Cookie Day

Tomorrow is National Homemade Cookie Day, so I certainly had to celebrate it with you by sharing my family's favorite cookie recipe with you - Three Boy's Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter & Oatmeal Cookies!

Today is National Coffee Day - Let's Celebrate with Coffee & Special Offers!

If you are my son, then every day is Coffee Day! But, for those of us who enjoy coffee, but do not have signs on the back of our vehicles which say, "powered by coffee", today is National Coffee Day! Of course we will look at some fun coffee facts - did you know . . .

crafting with grandma - Crocheted Monster Hats!

Christmas is just a few months away, so if you like to crochet, consider making some fun, warm hats for the ones you love!

When my grandsons were younger I crocheted fun hats for them - Agent Perry hats, yellow Minions, purple Minions, and a "Gimli" hat (their dog is named Gimli, so I got yarn the color of Gimli and crocheted ears like Gimli!) One year, even though the boys had no lack of hats, I decided since we had been having great fun making up monster stories, a monster hat seemed like a good "fit"!

Today is World Day of Migrants and Refugees

According to Nationaltoday.com, "Every year since 1914, the church has been celebrating World Day of Migrants and Refugees. The inception of this day can be traced to just a few months before the outbreak of the First World War. In 2019, the number of immigrants all over the world had reached a staggering 272 million, which was 51 million more than it was in 2010. Today is a day dedicated to expressing concern to many who face challenges related to immigration and is also a day to recognize our foreign brothers and sisters’ journeys and shine a light on their stories whichever way we can." There has been a lot of talk about migrants and refugees, so on this day which calls attention to these people, let's first look at what God has to say about them in the Bible . . .

Books Which Make a Difference - the little answer book & the little answer book for children

Today I am happy to let you know about two books for the adults and children you love - the little answer book and the little answer book for children.

As I say in my books, I am not a scientist. I am not a theologian. I am not a philosopher. I am not an apologist. I am a mom and I am a grandma. I have listened as friends have shared how their loved grown child and/or grandchild turned away from their faith. I know this is a pain more and more parents and grandparents are experiencing (as shown by the Barna studies). We must not sit back and continue to watch as the ones we love turn away from their faith.

Today is National North Carolina Day

Today is National North Carolina Day, so of course we are going to look at some of their silly laws and some fun facts about this State - be sure to share with the children you love! Did you know in North Carolina it is illegal to . . .

Tomorrow is National Good Neighbor Day!

While we should certainly be good neighbors every day, today is a day to especially be a good neighbor! In Luke 10 Jesus taught everyone is our neighbor and we need to be good neighbors; people who have and show mercy to all others! Get your grandchildren and think about things you are able to do to be a good neighbor to your neighbors. Maybe you could . . .

Today is Johnny Appleseed Day - Celebrate with Apple Cider Lollipops!

Since I grew up in - and currently live - in West Michigan, Johnny Appleseed was someone I learned about as a child! Today is Johnny Appleseed Day, so I thought it would be a fun day to share with you!

So, first some background info I found on-line about Johnny Appleseed. "He was born in 1774 as Johnny Chapman, this nurseryman became a legend while he was still alive, because he grew apple trees and supplied apple seeds to the early American settlers. He was and still is a legend. During the movement out west, he traveled and planted apple trees along the way. There is said to be a link between him and Arbor Day. Johnny Appleseed Day is at times celebrated on both dates, because he was born on September 26th, 1774 and March 11th is believed to be the date of his death."
